I feel kind of bad that I haven’t been writing any traditional posts in quite some time. And I won’t make much noise now either. But here’s some quick notes…
…Goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs the other night. Big news, but like I mentioned, I’m gonna keep this short. I was a bit longer at HockeyIndependent.
…Winger Jason Blake and goaltender Vesa Toskala is heading the other way…
…Prior to the trade, a couple of days ago, goaltender Jonas Hiller was resigned to a 4 year, $20 million extension.
…The Maple Leafs also made a trade with the Calgary Flames. They traded Niklas Hagman, Matt Stajan, Ian White and Jamal Mayers to the Flames in exchange for Dion Phaneuf , Fredrik Sjostrom and prospect Keith Aulie.
…Speaking of Keith Aulie, the Flames trade had positive influence on the Ducks as well. As Aulie is now heading to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. Ducks prospect Mark Mitera will replace him in Abbotsford.
…Mitera had 4 points (0+4) in his first 20 games with Bakersfield of the ECHL this season. He has since 9 points (3+6) in his last 13 games and is currently on a four game point streak.
…Ducks prospect Shawn Weller (forward) will also join Abbotsford in the AHL.
…Because Blake is now a Ducks, rookie winger Dan Sexton was assigned to Manitoba of the AHL. However, GM Murray has stated it’s only temporary and that “big sexy” will be back.
…The Ducks also recalled goaltender Justin Pogge who will backup Jonas Hiller tonight against Florida. The reason? Vesa Toskala has some paper work that needs to be taken care of moving from Canada to California. Blake is another situation as he is a U.S. citizen. Blake is set to make his Ducks debute tonight.
…A game day post is coming up on the blog later tonight…
