So I was up until 2 AM here in Sweden despite having school today. And of course, the Ducks made a deal after that so I'm late out to report it. Evgeny Artyukhin to Atlanta in exchange for defenseman Nathan Oystrick and a 2011 conditional draft pick. I'm really surprised Oystrick has yet to play in the NHL this season, and apparently, he's not in the Ducks plans this year. A good depth player, but already 27 years of age. That's high for a prospect.
He's described as an offensive defenseman, but can play physical and drop the gloves despite his small stature. He still needs to limit his mistakes though, otherwise he'd be a NHL regular already. He should be somewhat like Sheldon Brookbank, but prone to more mistakes defensively but with more offensive flare.
There's no new rumours around the Ducks for now. But there has obviously been speculation that James Wisniewski will be traded. Also, the Ducks still has more than enough forwards to fill the lines with. Especially since it seems Dan Sexton will be with the team despite getting re-assigned the other day.
“Oystrick is a player we expect to battle for a position on our defense next year. In addition, this opens up a roster spot to bring Sexton back, which is something we felt was important.” -
Those were the Ducks GM Bob Murray's words after the trade.
